KDP manuscript formatter
Format a manuscript for KDP without rebuilding it page by page
A finished manuscript is not automatically a finished book interior. Paperback production adds trim size, gutter margins, chapter openings, running elements, front matter, and fixed pagination. Typeset Ready brings those decisions into one guided browser-based workflow.
A KDP manuscript formatter converts editable manuscript text into a fixed-size interior PDF. For a text-only paperback, the finished file should use the selected trim dimensions, provide an inside gutter appropriate for the final page count, embed its fonts, and keep every page within the printer’s safe area.
What the formatter handles
Upload a DOCX, TXT, or MD manuscript and choose the specifications for the printed book. Typeset Ready detects common chapter headings, preserves paragraphs plus basic bold and italic emphasis, and paginates the result locally in your browser.
- Five common paperback trim sizes
- White or cream paper planning
- Mirrored inside and outside margins
- Four chapter-presentation styles
- Optional dedication, contents, and author biography
- Exact multi-page preview from the downloadable PDF
What to check before formatting
Complete editing and proofreading first. Formatting changes presentation, not prose. Give chapters consistent labels such as “Chapter 1,” “Chapter One,” “Prologue,” or “Epilogue.” Use simple paragraph styles and mark scene breaks consistently with three asterisks.
- Remove comments and tracked changes
- Confirm the final title and author name
- Use real paragraph breaks instead of manual line wrapping
- Decide whether every chapter must begin on a new page
- Keep a backup of the original manuscript
What the output is designed for
The result is a single-page, no-bleed PDF for text-focused paperback interiors. It is intended for novels, memoirs, essays, and straightforward nonfiction. Always inspect the final file in Amazon’s Print Previewer before approving publication.
- Not intended for image-heavy books
- Does not import tables, footnotes, columns, or floating objects
- Does not edit or rewrite manuscript text
- Does not replace the final KDP Print Previewer check
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Can I upload a Word document?
Yes. Typeset Ready accepts DOCX files up to 20 MB and retains text, paragraph boundaries, bold, and italics.
Does the manuscript leave my browser?
The manuscript is read and formatted in the browser. The application does not upload manuscript contents to a formatting server.
Can I use the PDF for a Kindle ebook?
No. The generated PDF is a fixed-layout print interior. Reflowable Kindle ebooks require an EPUB or another supported ebook format.
